People deserve more than legislative gridlock

To the Editor:
The fact that we had no special legislative session this summer shouldn’t surprise anyone, since it followed two years of inaction by the state Legislature. Obviously, the people now representing us are incapable of getting the job done, so it’s time for them to be replaced.
After two years of wrangling, we were left with no property tax relief, no transportation bill, and no public works or bonding bill, all of which hurt rural Minnesota much more than the metro, and why? Light rail.
Light rail was also the stumbling block holding back the special session, which doesn’t make sense, since Hennepin County agreed to pay the state’s 10 percent cost of building the line, taking the burden off the rest of the state. That is a dangerous precedent to set, since it flies in the face of local control. If we don’t allow the metro to do what they think is best for it, what will stop the metro from putting the squeeze on rural needs?
Voters should not reward sitting legislators who chose gridlock over the needs of their own constituents. Those who did should get a thumbs down. Vote instead for Amy Wilde for state senate on Nov. 8.
