Personnel Committee hears proposed policy changes
The Glencoe City Council Personnel Committee heard about updates to two Glencoe Police Departments policies from Police Chief Jim Raiter on Monday afternoon.
Council members Allen Robeck, Milan Alexander and Cory Neid are on the personnel committee.
The two policies were Use of Force - Regarding the Use of Tasers, and Use of Force - Firearms and Ammunitions.
Raiter reported there were minor changes to the policies. In the policy regarding taser use, the name of the devices were updated from electroinc control devices to conducted electrical weapons.
The area where to which an officer should aim changed from the abdomen to the midline of the upper torso, near the xiphoid process.
In the firearms and ammunition policy, Raiter explained that there were also minor changes. The department has changed shotguns for rifles in the squad cars, and required all officers to carry the same Glock 21 .45-caliber gun, which are all owned by the city.
