Plans shaping up for Glencoe Days

The annual Glencoe Days celebration is set for June 26-27.
A predecessor to the actual celebration will be the Dairy Day celebration on Thursday, June 25. That day’s activities include the Glencoe Lions Club picnic, machinery hill, Glencoe Fire Department display and “Adventures in Dairy Land,” all from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Oak Leaf Park. The midway amusement rides also will open at 5 p.m. that day.
Glencoe Days starts at 5 p.m. Friday, with the opening of the midway rides and food stands, the annual corn feed sponsored by Seneca Foods, caricatures sponsored by Subway, and face painting by Fantastical Faces. Free music by Crazy Airwaves will run from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Bingo starts at 5:30 p.m. in Shelter 1. Subway will sponsor a three-legged race at 6 p.m. The Glencoe Woodworking Club will sponsor Hammerschlagen (a competitive nail-driving competition) from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Free live music by Blurred Vision will be from 8 p.m. to midnight.
Saturday’s events start at 9 a.m. with the annual two-mile fun run/walk sponsored by Glencoe Regional Health Services. Registration is in Shelter 4. The run starts at 9 a.m.; the walk starts at 9:30 a.m.
The food stands will open at 9 a.m. The farmers market will be open from 9 a.m. to noon. Face Painting by Fantastical Faces starts at 9 a.m.
The kids’ pedal pull starts at 9:30 a.m., with registration at 9 a.m. A horseshoe tournament starts at 10 a.m., with registration at 9:30 a.m. (for more information, call 320-864-5231). Snap Fitness will sponsor a hula hoop contest at 10 a.m. A men’s three-on-three basketball tournament also starts at 10 a.m. (call Cole at 320-296-2974 to register a team). The midway amusement rides open at 10 a.m.
Subway will sponsor caricatures from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Bingo starts at 11 a.m. in Shelter 1.
The annual parade starts at 3 p.m. The route this year is on 14th Street from Pryor Avenue to Ives Avenue, then north to 16th Street and back to Pryor.
Following the parade, the Glencoe Historic Preservation Society will sponsor pie in the park at 4:30 p.m. Crazy Airwaves will provide free music from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Beer frisbee will start at 5 p.m. (call 320-510-0557 to register). Subway will again sponsor caricatures from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The Emanuel Lutheran rib feed will start at 5:30 p.m.
Bingo starts in Shelter 1 at 5:30 p.m. The kiddie costume parade will be at 5:30 p.m. A pre-Heat in the Street party with music by Diesel Drive, sponsored by K102, will be held from 8 p.m. to midnight. There will be fireworks at 10 p.m.
