On to the playoffs for Panther boys' hoops

By closing out the regular season with a seven-game winning streak, the Glencoe-Silver Lake boys’ basketball team laid claim to a one-half share of the Wright County Conference West championship, a 20-5 regular season, and the No. 1 seed in the North subsection of the Section 2AA Tournament.
Three goals accomplished – but aspirations remain.
That’s the Panthers’ perspective as they transition from a highly successful regular season into what is hoped to be an even better postseason.
“It’s a big deal,” coach Robb DeCorsey said of the WCC West championship. “These guys earned it and it is a good feeling. Now, we want to keep it going. At this point, we have to keep winning, or it’s over.”
Prior to the beginning of the season, GSL set out a series of ever-increasing milestones that the team wished to accomplish during its 2014-15 campaign. With two wins to close out the regular season last week, the Panthers checked off a trio of achieved ambitions.
With the Section 2AA Tournament beginning this week, GSL sets about three new goals – win the subsection crown, claim the section title – and ultimately, hoist aloft a state championship trophy.
The Panthers’ new goal-laden journey begins this week with the beginning of subsectional play. No. 1 GSL will take on either No. 4 Belle Plaine or No. 5 Norwood Young America in a 6 p.m. tip-off this Friday night at New Prague High School.
