Please support GSL School District’s requested operating levy

To the editor,
The Glencoe-Silver Lake Public School system is asking our voters to approve the operating levy on Nov. 6, 2018.
This vote is a part of the general election and you would vote at your regular place you normally vote. You do not vote at the school.
The operating levy is a very important part of our budget and it has been in place for many, many years. It is important to the district to keep our programs and services for our students, maintain our 20 percent fund balance policy, and to maximize the state aid that comes as a part of this levy.
Back in 2011, our stakeholders voted to approve this levy. We are now asking to renew this levy with a slight increase. The money will be used to operate the school and will not be used to pay off the building bond debt.
By now, I am hopeful that you have received the district’s mailing on the upcoming vote and it provided you with additional information.
Please let me know if you have any additional questions. If so, please feel free to give me a call at 320-864-2498.
Thank you for your continued support of GSL.
Christopher Sonju,
superintendent of GSL School District
