Post 5102 improves to 6-7

The Glencoe VFW Post 5102 baseball team improved to 6-7 overall entering this week after sweeping a doubleheader from the Hutch 15s and 16s and also claiming a pair of forfeits against Orono.
Glencoe opened last week by dropping both ends of a doubleheader against Delano on Monday, June 18.
Delano notched 10 hits in the Game One, with 5012 starting pitcher Drew Hedtke taking the loss in a 9-2 setback.
Offensively for Glencoe, Jake Christianson and Michael Waibel collected three hits apiece, while Bennett Lepel had a double among his two hits. Christianson scored both of 5102’s runs.
In Game Two, Delano collected 11 hits and seven walks en route to a 13-3 decision. Glencoe’s three hits were evenly dispersed among Preston Sturges, Blake Mickolichek and Max Edwards.
It was a decidedly different story for 5102 against Hutchinson. Glencoe swept both games against 16s Junior Legion and 15s VFW teams, winning 12-3 and 5-2, respectively.
Jake Christianson allowed just one hit while striking out seven over five innings to help Glencoe to the Game One win over the 16s.
Lepel and Jacob Stifter had three hits and one RBI apiece to lead 5102’s 12-hit attack. Reece Schwirtz and Max Edwards each tallied two hits and two runs scored.
Schwirtz took the hill to start Game Two against the 15s, allowing just a pair of runs over five innings for the three-run win. Hedtke earned the save with one inning of run-less relief.
Glencoe won the game on just four hits, thanks to eight walks and three Hutch errors. Lepel and Sturges each collected a double.
5102 hosted the Hutch 16s once again on Monday, June 25, after the Chronicle went to press.
Glencoe is slated to host Annandale for a doubleheader at 6 p.m. Thursday at Vollmer Field.
