Post 641 season comes to a close in playoffs

A pair of losses in the opening weekend of the sub-district tournament spelled the end of the season for the Plato Post 641 American Legion baseball team.
Plato was able to win its playoff opener against Minneapolis-based Giant Valley, but came up short against both LeSueur and Watertown in the following two contests as the summer campaign came to an end.
Behind starting pitcher Chandler Glaeser’s complete-game victory, Post 641 bested Giant Valley 2-1 on Friday, July 20, in Cannon Falls.
Glaeser gave up one run on a two-out single in the top of the first inning, but shut the door after that point. He scattered seven hits and one walk while striking out five in a clutch performance.
Plato tied Giant Valley with a run in the bottom of the first as Dane Schwirtz walked, stole second and scored on a Bennett Lepel two-out single.
The game remained knotted at 1-1 until the fifth. Plato loaded the bases with two outs before Nate Litzau – pinch running for Brett Baumgarten, who reached on a walk – scored on a passed ball to give Post 641 a lead it did not relinquish.
Plato netted just three hits in the victory, with one each going to Carsen Streich, Bennett Lepel and Spencer Lepel.
Sadly, that win was the last experienced by Plato.
In spite of a three-RBI game by Bennett Lepel, Post 641 found itself on the wrong end of a 10-5 loss to LeSueur in Friday’s nightcap.
That setback dropped Plato into the one-loss bracket of the double-elimination tournament.
The second loss came two days later as Watertown hung a 4-1 defeat on Post 641, ending the tournament and the year for Plato.
