Postseason draws ever nearer for girls’ cagers
he Glencoe-Silver Lake girls’ basketball team lost its last hope at a conference title but remained in contention for a high sectional seed after going 2-1 last week as the regular season draws ever closer to completion.
Wright County Conference West leader Watertown-Mayer came to town on Tuesday, Feb. 13, holding a one-game lead on the Panthers atop the circuit standings.
While GSL held a slim 46-44 halftime lead, the Royals rallied in the second half to clinch the conference crown with an 81-77 defeat of the Panthers.
Guard McKenna Monahan led GSL with 25 points, while also logging six assists and six steals. Guard Miah Monahan had 19 points with four rebounds, six assists and three steals, while forward Mickalyn Frahm posted 12 points with seven rebounds.
Watertown-Mayer has lost just once in WCC West play this season, falling at Annandale in mid-January. The loss was GSL’s third in conference play this season – the Panthers lost both games vs. the Royals and once against New London-Spicer.
