Public hearing set for Aug. 15 for Brownton’s proposed project
The Brownton City Council will host a public hearing on its proposed $8.4 million street and utility improvement project on Tuesday, Aug. 15, at 7 p.m., at the Brownton Community Center.
Chris Knutson of Short Elliott Hendrickson, Inc., (SEH) reviewed again the project history with the City Council at its Tuesday, Aug. 1, meeting, and said the same information will be made available to the public at the hearing. An assessment hearing will be held at a later date.
He also reviewed again the assessment policy the City Council had approved at its July meeting, and noted that it should significantly lower assessments for most property owners.
The City Council did have some questions for Knutson — specifically about service lines from mains to homes, and about the number of trees that may be taken down during the project.
During discussion of the assessment policy, Knutson had noted that property owners would be assessed 100 percent the cost of the water and sewer service lines from the mains to the buildings, since the property owners were the only ones who will benefit from the new services.
