Rains continue to impact school project

The rain over the last couple of weeks has continued to impact the Glencoe-Silver Lake (GSL) building addition project, the school board heard Monday night.
The holding ponds remain full and the ground remains saturated, causing continuing water issues at the building site, said GSL Business Manager Michelle Sander.
As contractors have been putting in footings north of Lincoln Junior High, the excess water has caused a lot of problems.
More than $40,000 in additional costs have been incurred because of the water issues.
Last week, Seneca Foods brought a large pump and hose to help reduce the level of the retention pond and pump water directly into the wetlands at the east end of the district property.
The district continues to work with the Buffalo Creek Watershed District on a more comprehensive drainage plan as part of the overall building project.
The district took out a building site insurance policy at the start of the project. The district has filed an insurance claim to try to recoup some of the extra dollars that have been spent because of the water.
An insurance adjuster is coming from Detroit and will be here today (Wednesday, Oct. 12).
