Renae Lois Jensen, 73, of Glencoe

Renae Jensen

Renae Lois Jensen, 73, of Glencoe, died Saturday, July 30, 2016, at her home.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Aug. 6, 2016, at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe with the Rev. Daniel Welch officiating. Jan Heins was the organist. Kay and Bonnie Young sang “Amazing Grace.”  Soloist Carrie Knott sang “When Peace, Like a River” and “The Lord’s Prayer.” Congregational hymns were “Beautiful Savior” and “Great is Thy Faithfulness.”
Casket bearers were John Mohr, Bruce Miller, Dustin Jensen, Dalton Jensen, Bonnie Young, Aaron Young, Hannah Jensen and Alyssa Jensen.
Interment was in the Glencoe City Cemetery.
Renae Lois Jensen was born April 22, 1943, in Mankato, the daughter of Owen and Bonnie (Cramer) Jones. She was baptized July 16, 1950, by the Rev. M. Hudson, and was confirmed in her faith on Dec. 9, 1956, by the Rev. B.G. Witt, both at Beauford Evangelical United Brethren Church in Beauford, Minnesota. She graduated with the Mapleton High School class of 1960. She furthered her education, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree at Mankato State University, where she majored in library science and minored in English and German, graduating in 1963.
On June 19, 1965, she was united in marriage to Charles “Chuck” Jensen by the Rev. Harold Kraft at Beauford Evangelical United Brethren Church. Their marriage was blessed with three children, Kay, Gary and Dean. The couple made their home on a farm north of Glencoe until 2006, when they moved into Glencoe.
Not only did Mrs. Jensen teach, but she had the heart of a teacher. She taught in Glencoe and Brownton. After her children were born and being a farmer’s wife, she found being a substitute teacher worked very well, being able to aid students in their learning, yet be able to help on the farm. She helped in the school districts of Glencoe, First Evangelical Lutheran, St. Pius X in Glencoe, Emanuel Lutheran in Hamburg and St. John’s Lutheran in Norwood Young America from 1975 to 2013.
Mrs. Jensen’s faith was very important to her. She was a loyal member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe, where she sang in the church choir and served with the LWML. She volunteered at the Connect Care Thrift Store and the hospital, being one of the original members of the Glencoe Care Givers, which is now known as the Hospital Auxiliary. Recently, she was serving on the Glencoe Concert Association Board.
Mrs. Jensen loved crossword puzzles and word games, and usually beat her opponents. She enjoyed cross stitch, crocheting, singing, reading, cooking, gardening, and playing both the piano and the clarinet. She will be remembered for her caring spirit and her friends will miss being able to call her because she had a knack for remembering names and past events. She loved her family dearly and treasured attending her grandkids’ events.
She is survived by her husband, Charles “Chuck” Jensen of Glencoe; children, Kay (Kevin) Young of Waconia, Gary Jensen of Minnesota Lake and Dean Jensen and his fiancée, Ruth Rathbun, of Woodbury; grandchildren, Dustin Jensen, Dalton Jensen, Hannah Jensen, Alyssa Jensen, Bonnie Young and Aaron Young; brother, Roger (Sheri) Jones of Grapevine, Texas; sister, Elaine (Roger) Jennings of Simi Valley, California; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Owen and Bonnie Jones; and brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Alvin and Laura Schiroo and Elvin Jensen Jr.
Arrangements were with the Johnson-McBride Funeral Chapel in Glencoe. Online obituaries and guest book are available at www.hantge.com.
