Report of armed person results in lockdowns in Waconia Jan. 25
Carver County sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a person with a firearm near the Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia on Thursday at about 1:15 p.m.
According to the sheriff’s office, deputies were in the area at the time of the call and began an immediate investigation, notifying Southview Elementary School, Bayview Elementary School, Good Samaritan Nursing Home and area child day cares of the alleged threat and suggested lockdowns as a precautionary measure. Deputies established a perimeter and searched for the alleged subject, but were unable to find anyone matching the description given.
Deputies investigated the matter and “determined there was no credible, firsthand knowledge of a person with a firearm,” according to a news release from the sheriff’s office. The incident was reported anonymously and indicated there was a person with a gun on Cherry Street near the medical center.
“Early indications are this incident is connected to an ongoing dispute between two people wherein one party made a threatening statement to the other,” according to the news release.
There does not appear to be any threat to the public, and the matter remains under investigation.
