Ridgewater nursing program receives 2 awards

Ridgewater College’s nursing program recently received two elite statewide awards for its innovative partnerships and “extraordinary education” from the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities System (MnSCU).
While Ridgewater College has offered practical nursing training since 1961 when it started in Willmar and associate degree nursing education since 1981, it turned a new leaf of innovation in 2014 when it was among seven Minnesota community colleges to offer a collaboratively developed baccalaureate curriculum through dual-admission with Metropolitan State University. The partnership is called the Minnesota Alliance for Nursing Education, or MANE, and also includes the following community colleges: Anoka-Ramsey, Century, Inver Hills, Normandale, North Hennepin and Riverland.
It is the MANE program that was one of just two programs this fall to receive the 2015 Innovative Partnering and Collaboration Award and one of four programs to receive the Excellence in Curriculum Programming Award at the MnSCU Academic and Student Affairs recognition ceremony.
Ridgewater Dean of Technical Programs Mike Boehme attended the ceremony.
“I was honored to accept the awards on behalf of Ridgewater College,” Boehme said. “The awards recognize the high level of dedication, innovation and collaboration that our faculty and staff have to developing and providing the best nursing education possible. For our nursing program to be recognized and honored at this level is something very special to celebrate.”
