Robert J. Hanson, 73, of Hutchinson

Robert Jerome Hanson, age 73, of Hutchinson, Minnesota, passed away Thursday, July 26, 2018, at his home in Hutchinson. Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, July 30, 2018, at St. Anastasia Catholic Church in Hutchinson with interment in the church cemetery.
Reverend Paul Wolf officiated. Bev Wangerin was the organist and Lucy Newcomb was the song leader. Special music included “Here I Am Lord” “On Eagle’s Wings,” “Amazing Grace” and “Battle Hymn of the Republic.”
Casket bearers were Mr. Hanson’s grandchildren Jonny Artmann, Shannon Artmann, Ryan Artmann, Aidan Seay, Brittany Hanson, Alexis Grochow and Amanda Tesch. Honory casket bearers were his great-grandchildren Jaelynn Artmann, Josephine Artmann, Isaac Artmann, Myles Artmann and Oliver Grochow.
Military honors were given by the Hutchinson Memorial Rifle Squad and Silver Lake Legion Honor Guard.
Robert Jerome Hanson was born on February 26, 1945, in Minneapolis. He was the son of Edmund and Sarah (Jordahl) Hanson. He was baptized as an infant and was later confirmed in his faith as a youth both at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Bloomington. He received his education at Bloomington-Kennedy High School and received his GED in the United States Army.
Mr. Hanson entered active military service in the United States Army on March 30, 1963, in Minneapolis and served his country during the Vietnam War. He received badges as a Marksman M-1 Rifle, Marksman M-14 Rifle, and a Silver Oak Leaf Cluster. Robert received a Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Defense Campaign Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and Vietnam Counter Offensive Campaign Medal. He received an Honorable Discharge on June 1, 1967, at Fort Carson, Colorado, and achieved the rank of Specialist Fifth Class (SP5).
On November 4, 1967, Mr. Hanson was united in marriage to Charlotte Dolezal at St. Adalbert’s Catholic Church in Silver Lake. This marriage was blessed with four children, Samantha, Edmund, Anthony, and Sonia. The Hansons resided in Bloomington, and later moved to Silver Lake, and Hutchinson where they raised their family. They shared 50 years of marriage.
Mr. Hanson began working at 3M in Hutchinson in 1970, and was employed there for 33 years before retiring in 2003. He was a member of the Silver Lake American Legion Post #141. He was also a member of the VFW Post #906 in Hutchinson.
He enjoyed the great outdoors and loved hunting, fishing, camping and traveling. He also enjoyed playing cards, storytelling, and family gatherings. He cherished every moment spent with his family, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends.
Mr. Hanson is survived by his wife, Charlotte Hanson of Hutchinson; children, Samantha (Dale) Wilson of Glencoe, Edmund (Wanda) Hanson of Richmond, Anthony (Tammy) Hanson of Glencoe, Sonia (Jeffery) Seay of Hutchinson; grandchildren Jonny (Nellie Kerr) Artmann, Shannon (Hannah Lindquist) Artmann, Ryan (Amanda Shermann) Artmann, Brittany Hanson, Alexis (Gannon) Grochow, Amanda Tesch, and Aidan Seay; great-grandchildren, Jaelynn Artmann, Josephine Artmann, Isaac Artmann, Myles Artmann, and Oliver Grochow; sisters-in-law, Florence Hanson of Rosemount, Janette Sifferle of Buffalo, Barb Dolezal of Hutchinson; brother-in-law, Ralph Guennigsmann of Silver Lake; nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Edmund and Sarah Hanson; siblings Gladys (Bennie) Neseth, John (Elaine) Hanson, Adeline (Willard) Lindell, Clarence Hanson, Duanne (Oney) Hanson and Gordan Hanson; mother-in-law Agnes Dolezal; sister-in-law Claudette Guennigsmann; brother-in-law, Douglas Dolezal; and several nieces and nephews.
