Robert Sopkowiak, 70, of Silver Lake

Robert Frank Sopkowiak, 70, of Silver Lake, died Wednesday, Jan. 27, at Cedar Crest.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, Feb. 1, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Silver Lake with the Rev. Paul Schumacher as the celebrant. Nick Ortloff was the urn bearer. Interment with military rites was held in the St. Adalbert Cemetery in Silver Lake.
Robert Frank Sopkowiak was born July 24, 1945, in Hutchinson, the son of Frank and Agnes (Phillipp) Sopkowiak.
He honorably served his country in the U.S. Army.
On Feb. 24, 1957, Mr. Sopkowiak and Jutta Brocks were joined in marriage in Wiesbaden, Germany. God blessed their marriage with three daughters.
He was formerly employed at 3M for 36 years. He enjoyed motorcycles, traveling, fishing, hunting and working in his shop.
Mr. Sopkowiak was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Silver Lake and also belonged to the Silver Lake American Legion Post and the Silver Lake Sportsman’s Club. He was a past president of the sportsman’s club and a chaplain of the American Legion post.
He is survived by his wife, Jutta; daughters, Melissa (Brian) Ortloff, Michele (Mark) Mlinar and Monica Sopkowiak (fiancé Chris Everson), all of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Nick (Jenny) Ortloff of Hutchinson, Michael Ortloff of Sartell and Paige, Kaitlyn and Andrei Mlinar, all of Hutchinson; a sister, Kathleen (Jerry) Thissen of Hutchinson; three nephews; other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother, Frank; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Emil and Hilde Brocks.
