Roger E. Peterson, 83, of Hutchinson

Roger Earl Peterson, 83, of Hutchinson, died Thursday, Aug. 7, 2014, at Hutchinson Health.
A gathering of family and friends was held Thursday, Aug. 14, at the Dobratz-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Hutchinson.
Roger Earl Peterson was born Sept. 28, 1930, in Hutchinson, the son of Emil and Edna (Hanson) Peterson. He was baptized as an infant and confirmed in his faith as a youth at Faith Lutheran Church (formerly Main Street Lutheran Church) in Hutchinson. He was educated in Hutchinson and a graduate of the Hutchinson High School class of 1948.
Mr. Peterson entered active military service in the U.S. Armed Forces on Jan. 16, 1951, in Hutchinson, and served his country during the Korean War. He was discharged on April 2, 1952, at Camp Rucker, Ala.
On Oct. 5, 1957, he was united in marriage to Elna “Tynee” Ruschmeyer at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Stewart. Their marriage was blessed with two daughters, Mary and Nancy. The Petersons resided in Stewart for seven years. In 1964, they moved to Glencoe, and in 2000, moved to Hutchinson. They shared 56 years of marriage.
Mr. Peterson was a superintendent for several construction companies for 35 years.
He enjoyed weekends and summers at his cabin at Lake John in Annandale. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards, going to casinos and dancing. He was an avid sports fan. He had a great laugh; he always had a smile on his face. He especially cherished spending time with his family, grandchildren and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Elna Mae “Tynee” Peterson of Hutchinson; daughter, Nancy Ann Peterson of Victoria; granddaughter, Shelby Alyse Malinski of Victoria; son-in-law, Thomas Peterson of Rockton, Ill.; sisters, Phyllis Oleson of Hutchinson, Lorraine Jensen of Minnetonka, Elaine Fratzke of Hutchinson and Arliss (Delton) Haag of Hutchinson; sisters-in-law, Donna (Jim) Mills of Hutchinson and Darnelle Hendrix of Oklahoma City, Okla.; brother-in-law, Orlando (Gloria) Ruschmeyer of St. Paul; nieces; nephews; many other relatives; and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Emil and Edna Peterson; daughter, Mary Kay Peterson; granddaughter, Chelsea Elizabeth Aker; brother, Donald Peterson; and sister, Jane Lund; and brother-in-law, Dr. Sam Hendrix.
