Roland Bergs

Roland Bergs, 93, of New Auburn Township, rural Arlington, passed away Saturday, Jan. 2, 2021, at Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia.
A funeral service was held Saturday, Jan. 9, 11 a.m., at Zion Lutheran Church in Arlington, with interment following at the Zion Lutheran Cemetery in New Auburn Township. Visitation was held Saturday, January 9, 10 to 11 a.m., one-hour prior to the service at the church.
Pastor James Carlson was the officiating clergy.
Brenda Danielson was the organist.
“Abide With Me,” “What A Friend We Have In Jesus,” “Amazing Grace” and “Borning Cry” were the congregational hymns.
Roland’s grandchildren and great-grandchild – Bradley Pomplun, Kerry Pomplun, Carrie Eidem, Kyle Eidem and Chloe Eidem – were the honorary casket-bearers.
Larry Lindeman, Mark Grams, Jim Flemming, Rodney Tuttle, Mike Lindeman and Mike Bergs were the casket-bearers.
Roland Gordon Bergs was born March 19, 1927, at home in New Auburn Township, Sibley County. He was the son of Rudolph and Martha (Frauendienst) Bergs. Roland was baptized as an infant April 24, 1927, and was later confirmed in his faith as a youth on April 6, 1941, by Pastor Lars Werner, both at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Auburn. He received his education at country school in New Auburn Township.
On May 26, 1946, Pastor Wm. Mueller united Roland in marriage to Evelyn Jakobi at Zion Lutheran Church in New Auburn Township. Roland was a lifelong resident of New Auburn Township where he was a dairy farmer. He loved his cows. Roland and Evelyn were blessed with two children, Geraldine and Gordon. They shared 55 years of marriage when Evelyn passed away Aug. 1, 2001.
Mr. Bergs was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Arlington where he served as an usher and deacon. He was a member of the Country School No. 74 school board and the Shady Lane Sportsman Club where he helped with fish fries, fox hunts and coon feeds.
Mr. Bergs enjoyed family gatherings, farming, reading, going to town to have coffee and driving around to look at the crops. He cherished the time he spent with his family, especially his children, grandchildren and great-grandchild.
Roland passed away Saturday, Jan. 2, at the Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia, at the age of 93 years, 9 months, 13 days. Blessed be his memory.
Roland is survived by his children, Geraldine Pomplun and her husband, Roger, of New Auburn, and Gordon Bergs and his wife, Barb of Arlington; grandchildren, Bradley Pomplun and his wife, Kerry, of Glencoe, Carrie Eidem and her husband, Kyle, of Brooklyn Park; great-grandchild, Chloe Eidem; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Mr. Bergs was preceded in death by his parents, Rudolph and Martha Bergs; wife, Evelyn Bergs; brothers, Elroy Bergs and his wife, Mayda, Raymond Bergs and his wife, Gladys; nephews-in-law, James Hartmann Sr., and Mark Dwinnell.
