Rosella Benson, 81, of Stewart, wife of Richard Benson, died Wednesday, April 27, 2016, at the St. Cloud Hospital.
The funeral service was held Saturday, April 30, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Brownton with the Rev. R. Allan Reed officiating. Robin Kruse was the organist, and soloist Phillip Benson sang “God Be With You ’Til We Meet Again.”
Honorary bearers were Mrs. Benson’s grandchildren, Melissa Kremeier, Alison Benson, Ashley Benson, Heather Benson, Phillip Benson, Josiah Benson, Julia Benson, Lydia Benson and Wilson Gratz. Casket bearers were grandchildren Rick Leiviska, Jeremiah Leiviska, Nathan Benson, Trent Benson, Dillon Gratz and Elliott Gratz.
Interment was in the church cemetery.
Rosella Annabelle Benson, was born April 13, 1935, in Penn Township, McLeod County, the daughter of Henry F. and Helena (Boelter) Streich. She was baptized at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Stewart and was confirmed in her faith at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Brownton. She grew up in Penn Township, and attended school in Brownton. Following her graduation from Brownton High School, she studied at the University of Minnesota for one year.
On June 12, 1954, she was united in marriage to Richard Benson at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Brownton. They made their home in Collins Township, and were blessed with six children.
Mrs. Benson was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Brownton. She served many years as a release time teacher. Her faith was of the utmost importance to her.
Mrs. Benson enjoyed the active farm life, self-sacrificing whole-heartedly by helping whenever and wherever she was needed. She put her family first, and she loved her roles as mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and homemaker. Gardening, baking and cooking were natural parts of her life that she truly enjoyed.
She is survived by her husband, Richard Benson; children, Doreen (Richard) Leiviska of Apple Valley, David (Diane) Benson of Stewart, Douglas (Marlene) Benson of Stewart, Daniel (Merry) Benson of Stewart, JoAnn (Bradley) Gratz of Atwater and Doyle (Tonya) Benson of Stewart; 15 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brothers, Jerome (Marge) Streich of Brainerd and Darroll (Marlene) Streich of Stewart; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry F. and Helena Streich.
Arrangements were with the Hughes-Hantge Funeral Chapel in Hector.
