Rough stretch for GSL softball

It’s been a tough stretch for the Glencoe-Silver Lake softball team, with the Panthers having lost six of seven games after a weekend tournament in Hutchinson.

The stretch that began with a 6-2 loss to Rockford in the second game of a doubleheader on Friday, April, continued last week with losses to Watertown-Mayer, Litchfield, Dassel-Cokato and Hutchinson, broken up by a 6-5 defeat of visiting Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted on Friday, May 6.

GSL was nipped by the Royals 4-3 on Tuesday, May 3, with the visitors building on a 2-1 lead with a two-run fifth to put the game away. Starting pitcher Moriah Maunu took the loss after two innings of work before Layne Herrmann took over for the final five frames.

Maunu, Ryley Oliver and Morgan Mathews notched one RBI apiece, with Maunu also scoring on a 3-for-4 day at the plate. Maddy Kalenberg and Miranda Grack also scored for the Panthers.
