Ruth Lydia Wandrie, 93, of Glencoe

Ruth “Pinky” Lydia (Bentz) Wandrie, 93, of Glencoe, died Thursday, Jan. 21, 2016, at Glencoe Regional Health Services Long Term Care.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Jan. 30, at 11 a.m., at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Glencoe with interment following in the Glencoe City Cemetery.
The Rev. Ronald Mathison will officiate and Marjorie Hemmann will be the organist. Soloist Julie Stiles will sing “The Lord’s Prayer.” Congregational hymns will be “Be Still, My Soul,” “Just As I Am” and “How Great Thou Art.”
Casket bearers will be Bruce Gruenhagen, Todd Gruenhagen, Dennis Wandrei, Dr. Gerald Close, Greg Wedin, Jacob Wandrie and Luke Wandrie.
Ruth “Pinky” Lydia (Bentz) Wandrie was born to Paul and Lydia (Biermann) Bentz on May 31, 1922, in Moltke Township, Sibley County. She was baptized as an infant and confirmed in her faith as a youth, both at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Moltke Township. She attended parochial school through the eighth grade. In 1940, she graduated from Gibbon High School in Gibbon. She furthered her education by attending the University of Minnesota, St. Andrew’s Hospital School of Nursing and became a registered nurse in 1943.
On Aug. 17, 1946, she was united in marriage to Hillard Wandrie by the Rev. Alf. R. Streufert at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe. They made their home in Glencoe, and their marriage was blessed with three children, Michael, Thomas and Douglas. The couple shared 45 years of marriage before Mr. Wandrie’s death on Aug. 26, 1991.
In addition to being a loving wife, mother and homemaker, Mrs. Wandrie worked in various hospital departments, clinics and doctors offices. The Wandries were charter members of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Glencoe, where Mrs. Wandrie taught Sunday school and sang in the church choir.
She enjoyed traveling, square dancing, playing bridge, gardening, refinishing furniture, knitting, embroidery and volunteering at Glencoe Regional Health Services. She cherished the time spent with friends and family and, most of all, her grandchildren.
She is survived by her sons, Michael Wandrie of Hutchinson, Thomas (Diane) Wandrie of Gilbert, Arizona, and Douglas (Donelle) Wandrie of Chaska; four grandchildren, Leah Wandrie, Jacob Wandrie, Luke Wandrie and Martyne Wandrie; sister, Verna Gruenhagen Stark of Dassel; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Lydia Bentz; husband, Hillard Wandrie; and sister, Elva Dreier.
