School Board approves contracts on split votes
The Glencoe-Silver Lake School Board, in two separate actions, voted 4-2 to approve contracts for six district employees.
The contracts for Activities Director Dean Schwirtz and district office staff members Becky Dahl, Crystal Dahlke, Carol Dammann, Dawn Peterson and Lori Peterson were approved.
The contracts are effective July 1, 2016, through June 30, 2018.
The biggest change in the contracts is the move from the “cafeteria-style” benefits plan to contract language that includes benefits. The new language will go into effect the second year of the contracts.
The cafeteria plan gave employees a set amount of money to choose different insurance plans such as health, dental, life and disability, or take cash as part of their taxable salary.
The new language gives a set amount for each benefit.
The move was made in accordance with federal regulations under the Affordable Care Act.
