School Board discusses security, election

Monday evening, Jan. 12,  saw members of the Glencoe-Silver Lake (GSL) School Board sworn in, and also was a host to many hot topics. Chair Clark Christianson, and board members Anne Twiss and Jason Lindeman were all sworn in to begin a new term.
Next on the agenda was an update from Bernie Getzlaff, the food service director for the district. She demonstrated the use of the updated Chartwell’s website, which displayed the lunch menus for the area public schools, as well as provided useful nutritional information for each item served to the students. The site will provide a wealth of information about dietary concerns and common food allergies. Parents also can request that each new lunch menu be emailed to them. The GSL Mock Trial team came in to demonstrate the process of its competitions.  The team gave a detailed performance of direct and cross examination. Having earned high marks in its invitationals, Advisers Tom Schoper and Wanda Collins are very optimistic for the beginning of the competition season this Friday. Schoper explained that the Mock Trial team at GSL was very fortunate to have so many attorneys in the area willing to volunteer to coach the student attorneys. This is an advantage that not many other teams share.
