School board split on changing start times for next year
Unless the issue is revisited later this summer, there won’t be a change to the times when Glencoe-Silver Lake students report to school since the school board was split on a proposal to push back start times to allow staff more time to work on improving education and give students some free time before starting the day.
The board voted 3-3 against a plan that would push back the start and end of the school day at the junior-senior high for the 2019-2020 school year from the current 7:55 a.m. to 3:10 p.m. to 8:12 a.m. to 3:20 p.m., Lincoln Elementary from the current 7:55 a.m. to 3 p.m. to 8:15 to 3:10 p.m., and Lakeside Elementary School from its current start time, 8:05 a.m. to 2:55 p.m., to 8:10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Directors Jon Lemke, Jamie Alsleben and Kevin Kuester opposed the proposal. Directors Jason Lindeman, Donna VonBerge and Alicia Luckhardt supported the proposal.
