School district, union reach possible contract deal
An all-day mediation session between the union representing the Glencoe-Silver Lake School District’s paraprofessionals and secretaries has produced a possible contract agreement covering the 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 school years.
The two sides went to mediation Tuesday, Dec. 17, after negotiations failed to achieve a contract both sides could live with. The big sticking point to reach an acceptable agreement was longevity pay for members of the union, particularly those who had reached the top of the steps scale. The tentative contract language includes a salary schedule that begins at $13.08 per hour.
“I think we’re trying to have a competitive wage, a wage that allows good, quality people to work here, which is what we have,” said Superintendent Chris Sonju.
