Section champs return to the field
When we last saw the Glencoe-Silver Lake baseball team, the Panthers were putting the finishing touches on a 19-5 season by finishing third in the 2014 Class AA state tournament.
It was GSL’s first trip to state in five years and the squad faces a difficult road in its quest to repeat as Section 2AA champions.
Coach Dean Schwirtz notes that other teams are likely favored to claim both the conference and sectional crowns, but that’s not stopping the Panthers from being the best that they can be.
“We always want and believe we have the ability to contend for a conference championship,” Schwirtz said. “But our main goal is to approach each game pitch-by-pitch and make improvements as we progress throughout the season.”
