Several injured in 2 crashes during Saturday snowstorm

Two accidents with an hour during Saturday’s snowstorm resulted in multiple injuries, according to the McLeod County Sheriff’s Office. Snowfall was heavy and visibility was limited at the time of the accidents.
The first accident was reported at 3:01 p.m. on 190th Street near Vale Avenue, west of Hutchinson. According to the sheriff’s office, a 2009 Volkswagen Jessie, owned and driven by Stacy Damlow, 44, of Hutchinson, and a 2008 Mazda MZ6, owned by Shawn Nelson and driven by Katie Nelson, 17, both of Hutchinson, collided at the intersection. Both drivers were taken to the hospital with unspecified injuries.
Assisting at the accident were the Hutchinson Fire Department, Allina Ambulance and Minnesota State Patrol.
The second accident was reported at 3:56 p.m. in the area of Babcock Avenue and 220th Street, south of Winsted, and involved three vehicles, including a 2000 Mercury Sable, owned and driven by Rita Smith, 61, of Cokato, a 2015 Hyundai sedan, owned by Rebecca Benoit and driven by John Peterson, 74, both of Cokato, and a 2009 Ford Explorer, owned and driven by Willis Leistiko, 75, of Mayer. The sheriff’s office said “multiple people were transported to the hospital,” but did not specify how many or who they were.
The sheriff’s office also responded to multiple reports of vehicles in ditches or off the roadway throughout Saturday and Sunday.
