Shimanksi named Trailblazer Transit Board chair
The Trailblazer Transit’s officers will include one of its new Wright County Area Transit (WCAT) representatives. WCAT is a coalition of Wright County cities that has partnered with Trailblazer to provide transit service in their communities.
The Trailblazer Transit Joint Powers Board, which officially began its new partnership with WCAT Jan. 1, elected its 2015 officers at its Thursday morning meeting.
Bill Pinske, one of Sibley County’s two commissioners who sit on the joint powers board, said the chair position generally switched between McLeod and Sibley county representatives each year.
Pinske said the only exception was two years that former McLeod County Commissioner Kermit Terlinden was the chair, primarily because of the construction of the new Trailblazer facility in Glencoe.
Pinske was the chair in 2014.
Pinske had suggested at the joint powers board’s December meeting that the chair position return to McLeod County, while WCAT provides the vice chair and Sibley County fills the recorder position.
The joint powers board unanimously elected McLeod County Commissioner Ron Shimanski as the chair, Jack Russek, a Delano City Council member and WCAT delegate as vice chair, and Sibley County Commissioner Jim Swanson as the recorder.
