Silver Lake Council has sticker shock over Cleveland Street project costs

It wasn’t just the total project cost that got the Silver Lake City Council when it reviewed the feasibility report for a potential utility and street improvement project on Cleveland Street, but the amount that would be assessed to the property owners.
The Council had directed engineering firm Short Elliott Hendrickson (SEH) to start a feasibility report for a project to improve the city’s underground utilities and street surface on a two-block stretch of Cleveland Street from East Avenue to Lake Avenue.
Chris Knutson and Dan Ehrke from SEH presented the draft feasibility report to the Council on Monday, Sept. 21.
The total estimated project cost is $853,200. This includes $495,450 for Cleveland Street street reconstruction, $18,900 for East Avenue curb replacement, $22,950 for an East Avenue sidewalk extension, sanitary sewer improvements for $124,200, water main improvements for $130,950, and store sewer importments for $60,750.
The total price tag does include a 10 percent contingency.
Nearly 40 percent of the project would be financed by neighborhood assessments totaling $340,141.
