Silver Lake’s preliminary 2017 levy set with 1.3% increase

The Silver Lake City Council approved a preliminary 2017 tax levy of $480,127, a 1.3 percent increase from 2016, on Monday, Sept. 12.
The city’s revenue and expenses for 2017 are currently estimated at $765,728 each.
The general fund tax levy will be $410,994 and the debt service levy will be $69,133 for a total preliminary tax levy of $480,127, up  $6,535 from 2016.
The council also:
• Heard the results of the storm sewer study that the council ordered from  Short Elliott Hendrickson, Inc. (SEH).
The storm sewer study was ordered as the result of years of complaints and concerns from Larry Lhotka, who lives on Frank Street. Almost anytime it rains, Lhotka has to sandbag around his house in an effort to prevent the basement from flooding.
John Rodeberg of SEH presented the results of the study.
