Silver Lake City Council approves shed/ambulance storage remodel, waits on PD upgrades

The Silver Lake City Council approved a plan to update and remodel the city-owned shed that is attached to the city office building at its meeting Monday, Oct. 15.
The plan, brought forth by Harvey Mikolichek and members of local organizations over the last couple of meetings, will heat and insulate the existing space to be used by the fire department for storage.
The council had asked for formal quotes which the group presented at the meeting. Low bids came from Schauer and Sons Construction, ($5,000) for the labor of insulating and Installing steel; Mikolichek Plumbing and Heating, ($2,352, $1,125 for labor) for a heater and installation; Menards ($4,421) for materials and an estimated $300 for building permits.
The project is estimated to total just over $12,000. Mayor Bruce Bebo had previously offered to donate a heater which would reduce the cost by about $1,200.
Mikolichek anticipates much of the labor being donated which could further reduce the cost.
The council approved the project at a cost not to exceed $12,000. Councilors will figure out where in the budget the money will come from at a later time when a full council is present.
