Silver Lake Fire Department battles large shed fire
The Silver Lake Fire Department was called out in the wee hours of Sunday morning to battle a machine shed blaze at the David Pokornowski residence on 228th Street, northeast of Silver Lake.
Fire Chief Dale Kosek said the department was paged at about 2:20 a.m. After hearing from a deputy that the 50-foot by 100-foot shed was fully engulfed, the department called for mutual aid from three area departments.
Kosek said Pokornowski used the shed for a tractor and implement repair business. The cause of the fire is unknown, but an initial investigation by the state fire marshal points to the heating system. The total dollar loss also is unknown.
Kosek said firefighters were on the scene until about 7:30 a.m.
More about the fire will be published in the Jan. 27 print edition of The Chronicle.
