Silver Lake hires out water and sewer responsibilities

The Silver Lake City Council is finding out firsthand the need for cross-training among employees, as it heard at its Monday, Oct. 3, meeting that both its maintenance workers are out on extended medical leaves.
Public Works Supervisor Dale Kosek and employee Gary Jerabek will both be out on extended medical leaves, leaving the city without a public works department.
Jerabek has been out for a couple of months and could be back in early November; Kosek went out unexpectedly on Friday, Sept. 30, and is expected to be out for a couple of months.
City Clerk Kerry Venier said he has been in contact with PeopleServices, a company that handles water and sewer services, to look at possible management of the city’s services while Kosek and Jerabek are unavailable.
PeopleServices, which has staff located in Lester Prairie, will charge $50 per hour for regular hours and $75 per hour for evenings or weekends.
