SL mayor makes appointments

new appointments for the Silver Lake City Council.
Mayor Bruce Bebo made his annual appointments at the City Council’s organizational meeting Monday, Jan. 4.
Councilor Nolan Johnson will serve as acting mayor as well as the liaison to the public safety department.
Councilor Ken Merrill will serve as the liaison for the Municipal Liquor Dispensary as well as continue to serve on the personnel committee.
The community development and planning commission liaison will be Councilor Josh Mason, and Councilor Brenda Fogarty will serve as the public works liaison.
Bebo will continue to serve as the city administration liaison and on the personnel committee, as well as the assistant to all liaisons.
City Clerk Kerry Venier also serves on the personnel committee.
Bebo also appointed Dale Kosek as the deputy weed inspector and Christine Wawrzyniak as the Civil Defense director and emergency response coordinator.
In addition to the liaisons, Bebo appointed The McLeod County Chronicle as the official newspaper; Gavin, Winters, & Long, LTD, of Glencoe as the city attorney; First Community Bank and Minnesota Municipal Money Market Fund as the official city depositories.
The Economic Development Authority will continue to be the members of the City Council.
The liaisons serve as representatives between the department heads and the Council. They are not in a supervisory role, but allow the respective councilor to gain and contribute insight into the appointed area.
The liaisons duties include working with the department and employees to be able to update the Council on the budget and workings of the department throughout the year.
The liaison appointments rotate on an annual basis to allow councilors to have the opportunity to work with different aspects of the city departments.

For more from the meeting, see the Jan. 6 print edition of The Chronicle.
