SL Council continues talks on downtown buildings

The Silver Lake City Council continued discussion on plans for the demolition of four Main Street buildings Monday, April 17.
The city acquired two of the buildings last year and continues to work on the purchase of two adjoining buildings.
One property will be acquired through eminent domain since it is owned by Mayor Bruce Bebo.
A purchase price of $17,500 has been agreed upon with the mayor. The court proceedings could take 90 days for the completion of the acquisition.
The second property, owned by Sumter Mutual Insurance, also is in negotiations.
A purchase price of $45,000 has been discussed.
A lot of possibilities for the space currently occupied by the buildings have been discussed, including a new city hall, an apartment complex or commercial space.
