Small plane crashes at Hector airport

Two people were injured Sunday after a small plane took a nose dive shortly after take-off at the Hector Municipal Airport.
The Renville Sheriff’s Office said the accident was reported at about 3:45 p.m., and the preliminary investigation indicated that a 2011 fixed-wing, single-engine Ultralight aircraft, flown by 75-year-old Gary Bipes of Hector, was attempting to take off from the airport, and was 15 to 20 feet in the air when the engine stalled and the aircraft nose-dived into the ground.
Eduardo Aguas-Fuentes, 52, was a passenger in the plane and sustained serious injuries. He was flown to North Memorial Medical Center by North Memorial Air Care. Bipes was taken to the Renville County Hospital in Olivia with non-life-threatening injuries.
Assisting at the accident were the Hector Police Department, Renville County Sheriff’s Office, Hector Ambulance and Buffalo Lake Ambulance.
The sheriff’s office, Hector Police Department and the Federal Aviation Administration are continuing their investigations.
