Softball looking to rebound, contend for WCC West title

With four weeks of practice, mostly indoors, the Glencoe-Silver Lake softball team is ready to bust out and compete.
“There’s only so much you can do without getting in some games to see what you need to work on,” coach Steve Davis said. “It’s time to play.”
The Panthers were scheduled to get in their season opener on Tuesday, April 12, weather permitting, after the Chronicle went to press. Davis is optimistic that his team will be able get back in the thick of the Wright County Conference West race, one season removed from a conference title.
“We again want to contend for the conference championship,” he said. “Last year didn’t go the way we wanted. We’ve got a very competitive group of girls and the goal is to keep getting better as the season goes.”
Winning the WCC West is a lofty goal, with conference newcomer Rockford – coming off a 15-3 season in 2015 – slotted as the favorite to take the crown, along with squads like Annandale and Delano also providing stiff challenges.
“It’s a tough conference, “ Davis said. “I think it’s important for us to get off to a good start and build confidence through winning.”
