Softball scorched by Rockets
The Glencoe-Silver Lake softball team took two on the chin in its lone day of competition last week, falling hard in a doubleheader at Rockford on Friday, April 28.
Losses of 11-1 and 13-1 dropped the Panthers back to .500 at 4-4 on the season. Three of GSL’s four losses have been of the 10-run variety.
The Rockets zoomed past the Panthers with a seven-run first inning in game one and never looked back. Kylie Ness scored GSL’s lone run in the sixth inning of the 10-run loss.
The Panthers actually held a brief 1-0 lead in game two when Molli Cacka drove home Lexi Hansch with a first-inning RBI single. However, Rockford again took the lead for good with three runs in the bottom of the first. The Rockets finished off the day with a six-run seventh to claim the sweep.
A doubleheader against visiting New London-Spicer on Monday, May 1 was postponed until this coming Monday due to inclement weather.
Prior to that game, the Panthers will spend a great deal of time on the road this week. GSL played at Watertown-Mayer on Tuesday, May 2, after the Chronicle went to press, and was slated to play at Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted on Wednesday, at Litchfield on Thursday and at Hutchinson in an invitational tournament on Saturday.
