Spikers fall twice at home

The Glencoe-Silver Lake volleyball team did not find home cooking to its liking last week, falling to visiting Norwood Young America and Hutchinson in midweek games before splitting a quartet of contests at Eden Prairie High School on Saturday, Sept. 2.
NYA swept the host Panthers in three games (15-25, 21-25, 20-25) on Tuesday, Aug. 31, to drop GSL to 1-1 on the season.
Setter Lexi Hansch led the hosts with 27 assists, while middle hitter Rhyan Herrmann paced her squad with 12 kills, as did libero Maren Roepke with 21 digs.
The Panthers followed up that loss with another, dropping a four-game match to Hutchinson (21-25, 25-16, 21-25, 21-25).
Hansch again led GSL with 35 assists, while McKenna Monahan’s 12 kills, Roepke’s 23 digs and Herrmann’s three aces were all tops on the squad.
The Panthers began their weekend by taking on some heavyweights in the Eden Prairie Tournament.
GSL split their four games in the southwest metro, defeating Cambridge-Isanti (25-23, 25-17) and Bloomington Jefferson (25-23, 25-14), while falling to the host Eagles (14-25, 11-25) and Hill-Murray (25-19, 18-25, 6-15). Individual statistics were not available as the Chronicle went to press.
Entering this week with a 3-4 overall record, the Panthers hosted Sibley East on Tuesday, Sept. 5, after the Chronicle went to press.
