Spikers third at Heritage tourney

The Glencoe-Silver Lake volleyball team carried an 8-4 record into this week after claiming its first Wright County Conference West victory of the season as well as finishing third in its initial tournament of the year last week.

Last week opened with a four-game loss to visiting Mayer Lutheran on Tuesday, Sept. 13. The visitors won the first game 25-17, before the Panthers bounced back for a 25-22 win in game two. However, the Crusaders finished off the contest by sweeping the final two games 25-20 and 25-18 to send GSL to a second-consecutive home defeat. Despite the losses at home, team members remain quite awestruck at the boisterous support the squad receives at home.

“The fan support at our home and away games is unreal,” Lexi Hansch said. “It's fun playing with a huge fan section because they give you this extra excitement which makes us want to win even more.”

Maddie Monahan led the Panthers with 17 kills, while Jessica Lemke and Lexi Hansch paced the squad with 19 and 17 assists, respectively. Lemke’s 17 digs led GSL, with Rachael Popp registering 16 digs.
