Stewart City Council to review inspection RFPs at workshop

The Stewart City Council will consider two proposals for building inspection services at a workshop session Monday, Oct. 26, at 6 p.m.
The City Council, at its Tuesday, Oct. 13, meeting, received two requests for proposals (RFPs) for building inspectors, one from its current provider, MNSpect of Waconia, and the other from 101 Development Resources, Inc., of Arlington.
The City Council will review the proposals at the workshop, and then set up interviews with each of the firms before making a final decision.
In related business, the City Council heard that City Attorney Jody Winters had determined that a vote adopting the rental inspection ordinance was valid, because no financial consideration was involved.
At last month’s meeting, Mayor Jason Peirce had challenged whether the vote was valid, because one of the Council members at the time was a renter and could potentially benefit from the adoption of the ordinance.
Peirce, who owns rental property, also noted that the attorney had issued an opinion that he could vote on issues pertaining to the ordinance, but not on the ordinance itself or on issues that involve his own property.
The City Council then considered two issues regarding the rental inspection ordinance.
