Stewart City Council sets public hearing on improvement project

The Stewart City Council set a public hearing on the proposed “Schedule C” of its street and utility project for Feb. 12 at 7 p.m. The council met Monday night.
The city is proposing about $3.76 million in improvements, of which about $2.65 million will be paid through grants, according to information discussed at the meeting.
But before the hearing, the City Council will have a workshop session Monday, Jan. 22, at 6:30 p.m., to tweak the proposed plans.
At Monday’s meeting, Maintenance Supervisor Matt Maiers raised some questions about proposed improvements to Croyden Street for the block directly south of the Stewart Medical Clinic.
Andy Kehren, an engineer with Bolton & Menk, said plans are proposed for an off-center crown in the road to help with drainage. The crown would be closer to the north side of Croyden, rather than in the middle.
Kehren said he was trying to address a drainage issue in which water sometimes flows into residents’ garages.
