Stewart council denies its mayor fence repayment

The mayor of Stewart, Jason Peirce, was denied repayment by his own council on fencing that was taken out during the city’s most recent streets project. The fencing is on property owned and leased by Peirce to a renter.
The fencing was replaced nearly a year after it was taken out, which Peirce said was unacceptable due to a contract stipulation between Peirce and the renter, where he receives $30 per month for secluded fencing from his renters. Peirce didn’t say whether he halted payments from his renters for the lost fencing, saying it’s not the council’s business.
