Stewart reviews gambling ordinance, asks state to address Highway 212

The Stewart City Council, in a special meeting on Aug. 27, approved posting an employment opening for the public works supervisor position, discussed gambling ordinance changes for the Wildlife Habitat Conservation Society of McLeod County, made a resolution to repair tiling on private property owned by the Wiechmans, and decided to send a formal letter to the state about water overflow on a Highway 212.
The council accepted a resignation from Public Works Supervisor Matthew Maiers, and approved the posting of an employment opening for the position.
The bulk of the brief meeting entailed discussion on the gambling ordinance, repairing the Wiechman property tile and sending a letter to the state.
The discussion on Stewart’s gambling ordinance involved tailoring the ordinance to better comply with the county’s Wildlife Conservation Society mission and current practices. The ordinance contained language suggesting that the conservation society wouldn’t be allowed to give money from outside of the city’s trade area, but the council decided to take out the language.
