Stuedemanns ready for the McLeod County Fair’s show ring

They enjoy their horses’ color, the feathered hooves, their docile disposition, and yes, their size.
Paige, Brooke and Shay Stuedemann will be showing their prized Clydesdales in the draft horse competitions this weekend at the county fair in Hutchinson. Showing the horses is a family affair.
From their house in rural Plato, just north of Highway 212, the three girls and their father, Dan, will load the horses and wagon into a semi-trailer and head over to the fairgrounds. The draft horse hitch show is slated for Saturday, Aug. 17, 11 a.m., at the outdoor arena. The draft horse halter show is Sunday, Aug. 18, 1 p.m.
Their four Clydesdales – two gelded males and two mares – each weigh about a ton. They are capable of easily pulling a wagon Dan Stuedemann’s father Wilton built. The girls also compete in the cart-driving category. There is also a halter class where the horse’s composition and makeup are judged.
The horses are gentle giants. They also compete in the horse under saddle class, a competition where the horse and rider work together against a variety of other breeds, including light horses used primarily for pleasure riding.
