Superintendent appreciates support of building bond

To the Editor:
On behalf of the Board of Education, staff, and all the students at Glencoe-Silver Lake (GSL), I want to express my thanks and gratitude to the stakeholders of Independent School District 2859 for your support of our building project. Your support of and commitment to our students is truly appreciated.
We realize that this will have a tax impact on many, with some having a burden that is larger than others. To all, thank you for your willingness to provide a quality learning environment for our students for many years to come. While there is much work to do, we are excited about the process and the educational opportunities that our new building addition will provide for our students and community.
Our next step is the design phase of the project. This step is the one where we will take time to collect data, gather input, and design the specifics of what the building will look like. This must be accomplished before the actual “ground breaking” can be done. It is our hope that we will break ground sometime next spring, with full completion of the project in the fall of 2017.
I am truly excited about the future of our school district. I simply love the culture at GSL and look forward to the learning process with all of our students, both inside and out of the classroom. At GSL, our students are learning and learning in many different ways.
Thank you once again to all our district stakeholders for supporting our mission, “Creating an environment where education is valued, excellence is expected, and lifelong learning thrives!” and thank you all so very much for supporting our building project. All of us at GSL are truly grateful!
Christopher D. Sonju
