Supermileage team majestically returns from Kansas City, Brainerd competitions

With the sight of flashing lights and the sound of sirens, the Glencoe-Silver Lake Supermileage Team majestically returned home Tuesday, May 12, after a week of exhibition and competition in Kansas City and Brainerd.
“It was a lot of fun,” team co-captain Brent Duenow said. “We got to meet and talk to a bunch of people.”
Prior to competing in the state Supermileage Challenge at Brainerd International Raceway, the team first took a trip south to Kansas City to show off its three vehicles as well as touring a Harley-Davidson factory and Kansas Raceway.
“People were really interested in what we do,” Michaela Neyers said.
After demonstrating their work to interested parties from around the country and taking in a truck race at the motorway, the team packed up its three cars – Pink Cadillac, Orange Crush and Blue Car – and headed back north for two days of competition starting on May 11 after a quick pit stop back home.
Like much of the region early last week, Brainerd did not initially prove to be very hospitable for outdoor activity, as the sun was firmly cloaked behind dark clouds, wind and rain.
“It was cold and wet and windy,” said Duenow while referencing GSL Industrial Technology and Engineering Instructor Mike Sundblad, who led the team on its trip. “Despite our teacher’s name being ‘Sunny,’ it still rained on us.”
