Teachers, school board to begin contract talks May 1
Representatives of Education Minnesota, Glencoe-Silver Lake, the union representing GSL School District’s teachers and the school board will begin talks on a new two-year contract Wednesday, May 1.
The two sides will begin discussions by establishing ground rules for the talks, potentially identifying contract language issues and other issues expected to be discussed in the talks. The actual negotiations are not expected to begin in earnest until June, after the Minnesota Legislature is expected to have adjourned, said Brook Magnuson, president of the local union representing the teachers. Lawmakers are expected to have wrapped up a two-year budget including funding for E-12 education in Minnesota. The state budget is expected to give negotiators a sense of the available funding for a contract settlement.
