Township annual meetings, some elections, set March 8

Township annual meetings and, in some cases, elections (some townships have November elections), are set for Tuesday, March 8, throughout the state. The slate of McLeod County township annual meetings include:
• Acoma Township — Annual meeting at the Acoma Town Hall, 23846 230th Street, Hutchinson, 7 p.m.
• Bergen Township — Annual meeting at the Bergen Town Hall, 16595 Babcock Ave., Lester Prairie, 8 p.m.
• Collins Township — Both the annual meeting and election will be held at the Stewart Community Center, 551 Prior St., Stewart. Polls will be open from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. to elect one supervisor and one clerk. Jim Friedrichs is the sole candidate for the supervisor position, and Gary Asche is running unopposed for clerk. The annual meeting starts at 8:10 p.m., and agenda items include reports from fire departments and the annual budget.
• Glencoe Township — The annual meeting will be held at the Glencoe Town Hall, 1:30 p.m. Approval of the budget is on the agenda.
• Hale Township — The annual meeting and election will both be at the Hale Town Hall, 9527 220th St., Silver Lake. Polls will be open from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. to elect one supervisor for a three-year term and one clerk for a two-year term. There is no candidate on the ballot for the supervisor position, so it will be elected by a write-in vote. Incumbent Roger Pokornowski chose not to seek re-election. The candidate for clerk is incumbent Tammy Stifter. The annual meeting starts at 8:15 p.m. to discuss the usual business of the township.
• Hassan Valley Township — The annual meeting starts at 1 p.m. at the Hassan Valley Town Hall, 420 Ames St., Biscay. The election will start upon completion of the annual meeting, and will remain open until 8 p.m. Seats on the ballot are for one supervisor for a three-year term and the clerk for a two-year term. Running for the supervisor position is incumbent Steve Reiner and the candidate for clerk is incumbent Robert Anderson.
• Helen Township — The annual meeting is set for 7 p.m. at the Plato Fire Hall. On the agenda are the budget, fire contracts and roads.
• Hutchinson Township — The annual meeting starts at 2 p.m. at Gopher Campfire, 24718 County Road 7, rural Hutchinson. Polls open after the annual meeting and remain open until 8 p.m. Incumbent Brent Uecker is running for a three-year supervisor term; no one filed for the two-year clerk’s position, currently held by John Gregor.
• Lynn Township — The annual meeting commences at 2 p.m. at the Lynn Town Hall, 14995 County Road 7, rural Hutchinson. Polls open after the annual meeting, but no later than 5 p.m., and remain open until 8 p.m. Incumbent Corey Henke is seeking re-election to the supervisor position. Barb Mattes has filed for the clerk position, which is currently held by Cheryl Bleil. Bleil did not file for re-election.
• Penn Township — The annual meeting and election will be held at the Penn Town Hall, 15989 40th St., Brownton. The annual meeting starts at 2 p.m., and agenda items include setting the budget. Election polls open immediately after the annual meeting adjourns, but no later than 5 p.m., and will remain open until 8 p.m. to elect a supervisor for three years and a clerk for two years. Candidates include incumbent Wilbert Hahn for supervisor and incumbent Donald Albrecht for clerk. The canvassing board will meet at 8 p.m. to certify the election results.
• Rich Valley Township — The annual meeting starts at 7 p.m. at the Rich Valley Township Hall, 16543 Ideal Avenue, Glencoe.
• Round Grove Township — The annual meeting and election will be held at the Round Grove Town Hall, 20731 50th Street, rural Stewart. The annual meeting begins at 1:15 p.m. and includes setting the 2017 annual budget and levy. Election polls will open after the annual meeting is adjourned, but no later than 4 p.m., and will remain open until 8 p.m., to elect one supervisor for a three-year term and one clerk for a two-year term. Candidates are Darwin Wagner for supervisor and Deb Zellmann for clerk. Both are incumbents. Results will be canvassed after the election.
• Sumter Township — The annual meeting will convene at 7 p.m. at the Brownton Community Center, 310 Second St. N, Brownton, to consider the 2017 levy and other business.
• Winsted Township — The annual meeting starts at 7 p.m. in the Vollmer Room of the Winsted City Hall, 201 First St. N, Winsted.
