Track and Field teams shine at WCC West meet

A new individual conference record and four individual conference champions highlighted the Glencoe-Silver Lake track and field teams’ day at the Wright County Conference championship meet, held at Litchfield High School on Tuesday, May 17.

Maddie Monahan set a new conference standard in the 300-meter hurdles as her time of 46.12 seconds bettered the previous WCC record time of 46.2, which was set in 1993.

Monahan’s accomplishment landed her one of the Panthers’ four all-conference nods. Joining Monahan as all WCC West from the girls’ team was Emily Muetzel, who won the 800-meter run in a time of 2 minutes, 23.42 seconds.

Two members of the GSL boys’ team also claimed all-conference status. Jake Litzau won the shot put with a throw of 45 feet, 5.5 inches, with Michael Schaefer claiming GSL’s fourth conference individual championship with a time of 4:43.92 in the 1600-meter run.

In the team standings, the Panther boys finished second to Mound Westonka, recording 116 points to 130.5 for the White Hawks. The GSL girls took fourth with 88.5, just one-half point behind Watertown-Mayer’s 89 points. Litchfield won the girls title with 156 points.
