Trailblazer seeks improved service in Sibley County

Trailblazer Transit is hoping to improve transportation service in the sparsely populated western Sibley County area, and the Joint Powers Board took steps Thursday morning to accomplish that.
First, Trailblazer Transit Executive Director Gary Ludwig suggested dedicating one bus from the fleet to the area.
In addition, Ludwig suggested adding New Ulm to Trailblazer’s service area. However, that means working out an agreement with Brown County Heartland Express, which provides transit service in Brown County. New Ulm is located in Brown County.
Ludwig explained that means establishing a “destination point” for Trailblazer riders wishing to go to New Ulm. Brown County Heartland Express suggested the medical clinic in New Ulm as that point. From there, Trailblazer riders can utilize Heartland Express for transportation to other places in New Ulm.
Ludwig said that the New Ulm route would probably not be available every day, but that Trailblazer would “funnel people” to the service. For example, he said, Trailblazer could run the service on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with a drop-off time of 8:30 a.m. at the clinic and a pick-up time of 2:30 p.m. to return to Sibley County.
